BETHESDA, MD – October 8, 2014 – SANS Institute, the global leader in information security training, today announced that the call for nominations for the SANS 2014 Difference Makers Awards is now open. The SANS Difference Makers Awards celebrate security professionals for the impact they have had in cyber security during 2014.

SANS is accepting nominations for both People Who Made a Difference in security in 2014, and for the Best Security Products and Services, as well. Submissions are due by November 3, 2014.

“There is no shortage of news stories spotlighting security failures. As these stories continue to dominate headlines, they overshadow the many good things security professionals are doing every day to protect customer and business data from the bad guys,” said John Pescatore, Director of Emerging Trends, SANS Institute. “There are thousands of security practitioners who are quietly succeeding and making breakthroughs in advancing security. The Difference Makers Awards were developed to honor these individuals.”

Since 2011, SANS has been celebrating those Difference Makers whose innovation, skill, and effort have driven real increases in information security. On December 13th at the SANS Cyber Defense Initiative Training Event in Washington DC, SANS will celebrate the 2014 Difference Makers with an expanded evening awards ceremony.
