San Jose, California, November 29, 2016
Zscaler, Inc., the leading cloud security company and Ooma, Inc. (NYSE: OOMA), a smart communications platform for small businesses and consumers, today announced a partnership to better protect consumers from internet threats. This partnership extends many of the capabilities of the Zscaler® cloud security platform to consumers in the form of a simple subscription service offered to Ooma Telo customers.
Under the partnership, Ooma has introduced Ooma Internet Security, a cloud-based internet security service, powered by Zscaler’s DNS filtering and security services, that protect all computing and “Internet of Things” (IoT) devices connected on the home network.
According to an August 2016 survey issued by the Digital Citizen’s Alliance, “Sixty-nine percent of Americans reported finding malware or other computer viruses on their computers,” highlighting the importance of consumers taking steps to protect themselves and their children online.
Consumers subscribing to Ooma Internet Security are protected from internet threats and may take advantage of valuable content control policies to safeguard the whole family with Zscaler cloud-based security.
“Ooma has identified early the need to harden the devices and services that Ooma customers use to connect to the internet,” said Punit Minocha, vice president of business development for Zscaler. “Consumer data devices have often favored connectivity over security, creating dangerous home network hygiene and exposing consumers to unnecessary risks. We are very proud to partner with Ooma to protect consumers so they can use the internet with confidence.”
The Ooma Internet Security service leverages the Zscaler cloud security platform to provide capabilities including URL filtering, black-listing, and threat intelligence harnessed from the Zscaler security cloud which processes 30 billion internet requests from thousands of enterprises and millions of users every day. Now, any consumer can connect to the internet with confidence.
“Security threats have significantly evolved in volume, velocity and variety and consumers are increasingly targeted by threats they’ve scarcely heard of like malware, ransomware, and botnets,” said Dennis Peng, vice president of product for Ooma, Inc. “Our mission is to provide high-quality, reliable home phone service using a standard Internet connection and the powerful capabilities of the Ooma Telo device, and now our customers can use that same device to protect their entire family from a multitude of threats while they navigate the Internet. By partnering with Zscaler, we can offer consumers many of the same protections typically afforded only to large businesses.”
