New Application Whitelisting technology helps IT managers create an inventory of trusted apps and block execution of unauthorized software
Bitdefender, the innovative security software solutions provider, today announced the availability of Application Control Whitelisting, a technology that limits exposure to malware or unknown threats in mission-critical environments.
The Application Control / Whitelisting technology provides full visibility and control of applications installed or running on company endpoints. After creation of an inventory of trusted applications running on the endpoints, the new technology can be switched to Production mode to prevent the execution of any application not listed. Powerful log analysis and reporting instruments also offer crucial insights into endpoint events.
Server-side polymorphism and malware packing technologies make it extremely difficult for organizations to control their exposure to e-threats, especially in environments where anti-malware technologies are not always connected to the vendor’s public cloud. With more than 450,000 unique malware samples a day, mostly targeted at infrastructure or departments that play key roles inside the organization, the Application Control Whitelisting technology can allow IT managers to keep all threats at bay by default-denying the execution of unknown software.
“The Application Whitelisting technology should now become the first layer of defense in any environment that relies on running the same set of applications over and over again, such as mission-critical servers, industrial control systems or HR / accounting department — the primary targets for ransomware or advanced persistent threats,” said Harish Agastya, VP of Enterprise Solutions at Bitdefender. “By the end of the year, the number of known malware samples will exceed 600 million, with growth of almost half a million every day. Application whitelisting prevents these threats from making it into your network, regardless of whether they are detected by the anti-malware defenses.”
Application Control Whitelisting is available in the GravityZone Enterprise Security installation and can only be activated on Windows platforms.
