SANS to Offer More than 45 Cyber Security Courses at Orlando, Florida Training Event

Bethesda, MD, January 28, 2019 – SANS Institute, the global leader in cyber security training, today announced its return to Orlando, Florida for SANS 2019 (#SANS2019) taking place April 1-8. One of SANS’ largest training events, SANS 2019 brings together top security practitioners from around the globe to share what works in cyber security. Included among the evening talks is a discussion by cyber security expert Keith Palmgren (@kpalmgren) entitled, “CYA by Using CIA Correctly for A Change”.

According to Palmgren, “It’s imperative that the Cyber Security industry starts working smarter or we will continue to get hit harder. Breaches are getting bigger and occurring more frequently while the Cyber Security community continues to look for the next ‘perfect solution’ to save us. Securing a network requires hard work and the prioritized application of security measures. While most in the industry will tell you to apply Confidentiality, Integrity, and Availability (the CIA) as a triad of equal parts, I say that is a mistake. Instead, we should use these fundamentals of security as guides in prioritization. Join me in Orlando where I will share how.”

In addition to his evening talk, Palmgren will teach his popular SANS SEC301: Introduction to Cyber Security course. This course was created for students with a basic knowledge of computers and technology but no prior cyber security experience. Palmgren’s five-day course covers a wide range of baseline topics to help students learn the fundamentals of cyber security which will serve as the foundation of their security skills and knowledge for years to come.

SANS 2019 is unique as it is one of the largest gathering of SANS course authors in a single event. Penetration testing expert John Strand (@strandjs) will teach his SEC504: Hacker Tools, Techniques, Exploits, and Incident Handling course. Microsoft Windows security expert Jason Fossen (@JasonFossen) will teach his SEC505: Securing Windows and PowerShell Automation course. Cloud security expert Dave Shackleford (@daveshackleford) will teach his SEC545: Cloud Security Architecture and Operations course. Cyber incident response expert Ed Skoudis (@edskoudis) will teach his SEC560: Network Penetration Testing and Ethical Hacking.
