Symantec Celebrates 10th Consecutive Time as a Leader for Magic Quadrant for Secure Web Gateways

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. – July 3, 2017 – Symantec Corp. (NASDAQ: SYMC), the world’s leading cyber security company, today announced that it has been positioned by Gartner, Inc. in the “Leaders” quadrant of the “Magic Quadrant for Secure Web Gateways.”1

This is the tenth time for the technology to appear in the Magic Quadrant for Secure Web Gateways, as Symantec acquired Blue Coat last year. In the report, Gartner wrote that “secure web gateways (SWGs) utilize URL filtering, advanced threat defense and legacy malware protection to defend users from internet-borne threats, and to help enterprises enforce internet policy compliance.” The report evaluated 11 different software vendors on 15 criteria. Symantec was placed in the Leaders quadrant and positioned the highest for its ability to execute against the criteria.

“As our customers continue to embrace the cloud generation, Symantec’s Secure Web Gateway plays a crucial role in our Integrated Cyber Defense Platform to protect organizations from threats originating from the internet,” said Mike Fey, president and COO at Symantec. “Our sustained category leadership comes from continually innovating user protection wherever they go, across the cloud, web, mobile networks and social media. By delivering this as a cloud-service, on premise, and deployed on infrastructure as a service, we’re meeting the diverse needs of the cloud generation. We’re proud to be recognized as a Leader.”

The Symantec Secure Web Gateway sits between users and their interactions with the internet to identify malicious payloads and control sensitive content. It consolidates a broad feature set to authenticate users, filter web traffic, identify cloud application usage, provide data loss prevention, deliver threat prevention, and help ensure visibility into encrypted traffic. The Secure Web Gateway enables security and compliance teams the ability to manage risk associated with end users who may stray toward unsafe web and cloud applications. Combined with caching technologies, it helps ensure a fast and secure internet experience.
